New Review

If I could write a big, fat historical novel as naturalistic, absorbing, and accessible as Ruth Sims' The Phoenix, I would.

Instead, I take it to bed with me, and write a review.  The review is over at Uniquely Pleasurable.

Enjoy!!

It's good isn't it? It was one of the first contemporarily written gay historicals and I was so happy to find it.

It is indeed. I was jazzed to get the opportunity to review it. Really good gay historicals are well worth celebrating.

Hi, Lee!
Ann sent me the link to your review of The Phoenix over on Uniquely Pleasurable. Well done! One of the longest, most detailed reviews I've received. I was a little amused by your puzzlement at Kit's obsession with Nick, but you weren't any more puzzled than I was. Or Kit himself, for that matter. Sometimes characters, like people in real life, can't even explain themselves to themselves.

I hope it's ok if I quote a few lines from the review for my website, and then link to the full review.

I have so much trouble with LJ that I'm not sure who is on my friends list and who isn't. In case you don't have the link to the video book trailer for The Phoenix, here it is: http://youtube.com/user/badcock24

And now I shall attempt the ultimate at derring-do: getting LJ to accept a post I've written.

Hi Ruth,

I loved that your characters weren't cookie-cutter "types" but rather fully realized, and sometimes ambiguous with it. You're welcome to quote the review, of course!

I saw your trailer through the EAA list, and thought it was lovely (I watched the whole thing, even if others said it was a bit long).

Best of luck with your future writing - is it too much pressure to say I await with high expectations? :)

Cheers,
Lee
